Why We're In Business

Have you ever thought that there must be more to life than this? Then you wouldn't be alone. I meet so many people who are now beginning to think just that.

As a society, we are told that being busy is good, that feeling stressed shows we are doing something productive, and that amassing 'stuff' is the goal of life. I don't buy that. And, increasingly, many others are feeling just the same.

Those ideas reflect a vision of business that is under increasing challenge, not least as a result of the present recession. Increasingly, people are looking for something else. Sometimes they know what that is, sometimes they don't.

But the idea has a common theme: a feeling that our work should a real contribution to the well-being of others, that we should have time to spend with our family and friends, and that there is something more to life than living from pay cheque to pay cheque.

It was for these very reasons that Stuart and I started Being In Business. Our purpose is to help entrepreneurs (established and budding entrepreneurs alike) create businesses that reflect the very best of who they are.

We help them to reconnect with their innate talents and skills, to uncover their passions and values, and to take time to create a vision of what would genuinely enrich their lives. Then we support them as they create a business - or realign an existing business - so that is deeply aligned with the very best of who they are and what they enjoy doing most.

There is one caveat - and here we speak from experience! - many people imagine the freedom that running their own business will bring and they rush headlong into creating that business, only to uncover 101 challenges they had even imagined. Having bought that particular t-shirt, we're using our experience to help others avoid the pitfalls that we stumbled into.

If you're interested in finding out more, watch this space. We'll be offering a free E-book to help you identify your passion and purpose and how you might apply that to your business soon.
